T-Mobile goes all out for Pride

HOME | Blog | T-Mobile goes all out for Pride

As Pride Month comes to an end, the slew of marches, celebrations, and events that commemorate the progress made by the LGBT community in pursuit of equality, as well as challenges of the past and those to come, slowly leave the calendar. Many brands and corporations have progressively played a more prominent role in the organization and sponsoring of such events as the years have gone by. This has not been without controversy, as many in the LGBT community worry if the role of corporate sponsors in Pride events has led to a change in what Pride signifies for both LGBT persons and allies in the 21st century.

T-Mobile's corporate headquarters in Bellevue, Washington lit up in celebration of Pride Month.

One such brand, however, not only scored a 100% rating from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), but also happens to be "the most diverse wireless carrier" with more than 62% of employees representing minorities. T-Mobile, headquartered in Washington state, has spent the past month engaging with Pride events and LGBT groups around the country as part of their #UnlimitedPride campaign, having participated in 78 pride events across 32 states as well as Puerto Rico, including being a presenting-level sponsor for events in Seattle and New York City, as well as a top sponsor in San Francisco and Houston.

"As the Un-carrier, we fully embrace different cultures, perspectives and ideas, because we know it fuels innovation and creates a stronger community capable of driving positive change," says Liz McAuliffe, executive vice-president, Human Resources, at T-Mobile US. "Every year, thousands of T-Mobile employees, allies and their families come together to celebrate this commitment to diversity by bringing their energy and spirit to Pride events across the country... and we're proud to support them in being their truly authentic selves!"

The brand's 100% rating from the HRC has been granted for the fifth year in a row as of December 2017 on the Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report on 947 businesses on policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) workplace equality. Between its stores, call centers and regional business offices, the Un-carrier has more than 10,000 employees across the country that participate in Diversity & Inclusion chapters... groups for like-minded employees with shared interests, across topics like veteran's support to women's leadership and more. The Pride & Allies Network helps identify opportunities for professional development, develops educational programs on matters of importance to the LGBTQ community and assists the business with outreach to employees and customers.
