The Opportunity

A Two-Fold Campaign Approach
Built for the Movement’s Capital

There are a variety of ways in which we can market to the LGBTQ+ San Francisco community — from the Castro, the world's most famous gayborhood, to the Transgender District in the Tenderloin, the Leather & LGBTQ Cultural District in SoMa, Oakland and the East Bay's deep queer communities of colour and women's communities, and Silicon Valley's corporate weight. Partner with Pink Media for the most comprehensive yet targeted reach into the highly-coveted LGBTQ+ consumer, with a focus on LGBTQ+ San Francisco and the Bay Area. Our campaigns are two-fold.

First, we focus on getting your message and story out to a hyper-targeted LGBTQ+ audience online via traditional online advertising, mobile apps, video advertising, and more — geo-targeted down to the ZIP code across the city, the East Bay, the Peninsula and Silicon Valley, plus the national and international markets that treat San Francisco as a pilgrimage. Second, we get your message out via strategically-placed social media posts, both organically and utilizing paid social media advertising — on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, X and more.

This includes both social media hyper-targeted advertising and our #ILoveGay Network — now reaching over 1.5 million LGBTQ+ followers, with #ILoveGaySF as the city-level presence in that network. Our success metrics are based on the visibility and performance we provide: impressions, reach, click-throughs, and engagement.

Our Campaign Framework

Part One + Part Two.
Complete LGBTQ+ San Francisco Coverage.

A comprehensive strategy that reaches the LGBTQ+ Bay Area through paid advertising channels AND organic social amplification — simultaneously, and across the bridge, because a plan that stops at the Ferry Building isn’t a Bay Area plan.

Part One
Hyper-Targeted Digital Advertising

We focus on getting your message and story out to a hyper-targeted LGBTQ+ audience online via traditional online advertising, mobile apps, video advertising, and more.

On the programmatic ad exchange, we layer interest and lifestyle data selects onto LGBTQ+ websites and apps, and geo-target down to the ZIP code — the Castro, the Tenderloin and SoMa, the Mission, Oakland and Berkeley, the Peninsula and South Bay, and the wine-country weekend markets.

For advanced placements, we utilize Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) technology — serving your brand films inside LGBTQ+ households on all smart devices, including Connected TVs (CTV), across the Bay Area DMA.

Display Ads Mobile Ads Video Ads CTV ACR Technology
Part Two
LGBTQ+ San Francisco Community Amplification

We tap into the online conversations and communities on your brand's behalf — amplifying your Bay Area story, venues, sponsorships and events within LGBTQ+ communities on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, X and more.

This includes both social media hyper-targeted advertising and our #ILoveGay social media network — now reaching over 1.5 million followers, with #ILoveGaySF carrying the city-level conversation. This market's queer media skews news-and-politics rather than nightlife-glossy, so campaigns land through credibility.

From Frameline and the Trans March to SF Pride, Folsom Street Fair and the Castro Street Fair, we help your brand show up where the community already gathers — with the substance this room actually grades on.

The Map

Three Chartered Districts,
One Bay

"San Francisco" here means the city first, with the Bay Area as its extended market — Oakland and the East Bay, Silicon Valley's corporate weight, and wine-country weekends. Frameline itself screens across San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland.

Chartered District
The Castro

The world's most famous gayborhood — Milk's camera shop, the Castro Theatre, the GLBT Historical Society Museum and the Rainbow Honor Walk. A chartered organization with a board, a budget and priorities, which means working with it rather than merely in it.

Chartered District
The Transgender District

The world's first legally recognized transgender cultural district, founded in 2017 by three Black trans women in the Tenderloin where the 1966 Compton's Cafeteria riot happened — three years before Stonewall. Trans culture, entrepreneurship and history, anchored by charter.

Chartered District
Leather & LGBTQ, SoMa

The city-chartered home of leather and kink culture and keeper of the Folsom legacy — a designation no other city has matched. Folsom itself is a nonprofit that grants proceeds back to the community.

Institutional anchors across the Bay include the GLBT Historical Society & Museum, the Golden Gate Business Association — the world's first LGBTQ+ chamber of commerce, 1974 — Horizons Foundation, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, the SF LGBT Center, Openhouse, the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, Lyon-Martin, UCSF's Gender Affirming Health Program and the National AIDS Memorial Grove.

The Data Behind LGBTQ+ San Francisco

The Numbers That Make
This Market Worth Reaching

A snapshot from the LGBTQ+ San Francisco Regional Guide — the hardest LGBTQ+ market to impress, and the most valuable to convince.

#1

The Highest Share in America

San Francisco holds the highest LGBTQ+ population share of any major American metro, and the deepest bench of movement institutions per capita anywhere — a civic identity so intertwined with queer history that the destination brand and the community brand are the same brand.

1978

Where the Flag Was Sewn

Gilbert Baker sewed the first rainbow flags here for Pride 1978. The Daughters of Bilitis formed here in 1955, the Compton’s Cafeteria riot preceded Stonewall by three years, and Harvey Milk won the era’s breakthrough seat in 1977.

3

Three Chartered Districts

More formally recognized LGBTQ+ cultural districts than any city on Earth — the Castro, the Transgender District and the Leather & LGBTQ Cultural District — each a chartered organization to partner with rather than a backdrop to stand in front of.

The San Francisco Calendar

Frameline50 Into a
Resistance Pride

June is the main season, and 2026 runs on anniversaries — the 50th Frameline flowing straight into a Pride weekend themed "Resistance in Action," then a fall of fairs the rest of the world copies.

June 17–27
Frameline50 — the 50th San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival, the world's oldest and largest, returning to the landmark Castro Theatre with screenings across San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland.
Friday, June 26
The Trans March — among the largest trans gatherings in the world, and the weekend's conscience.
Saturday, June 27
The Dyke March — the Mission's own tradition, and the second leg of Pride weekend.
June 27–28
San Francisco Pride — the 56th parade, themed "Resistance in Action," up Market Street from the Embarcadero Sunday at 10:30am, with the two-day Civic Center celebration and the Pink Triangle glowing from Twin Peaks.
July
AIDS Walk and Cycle to Zero, plus Up Your Alley in late July — the purpose and leather calendar's summer chapter.
September 27
The Folsom Street Fair — the world's largest leather and kink event, a nonprofit granting proceeds back to the community. Requires literacy, not squeamishness.
October 4
The Castro Street Fair — the 52nd edition, founded by Harvey Milk in 1974, themed "Where We Belong."

Use the anniversaries — Frameline50 now, the rainbow flag’s 50th in 2028, Milk anniversaries perennially. San Francisco’s calendar mints heritage moments no other market can. Pink Media builds Bay Area campaigns that run 24/7, 365.
