LGBTQ+ Regional Marketing

LGBTQ+ Sydney
Marketing

A parade born from a 1978 police crackdown now fills Oxford Street with hundreds of thousands. The world's largest queer museum lives in the police station that once held the marchers. And in 2026, for the first time, the national census will count this community. Partner with Pink Media for the most comprehensive yet targeted reach into the Harbour City.

The Opportunity

A Two-Fold Campaign Approach
Built for the Harbour City

There are a variety of ways in which we can market to the LGBTQIA+ Sydney community — from Oxford Street and Darlinghurst's historic golden mile and the rainbow crossing at Taylor Square to Newtown and the Inner West's younger, artier second pole, Victoria Park and Moore Park for Fair Day and the parade's finish, and the Asia-Pacific visitors for whom Sydney is the region's queer safe harbour. Partner with Pink Media for the most comprehensive yet targeted reach into the highly-coveted LGBTQ+ consumer, with a focus on LGBTQ+ Sydney. Our campaigns are two-fold.

First, we focus on getting your message and story out to a hyper-targeted LGBTQ+ audience online via traditional online advertising, mobile apps, video advertising, and more — geo-targeted across the Sydney metro, the wider Australian market, and the Northern Hemisphere feeder markets that travel south for February. Second, we get your message out via strategically-placed social media posts, both organically and utilizing paid social media advertising — on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, X and more.

This includes both social media hyper-targeted advertising and our #ILoveGay Network — now reaching over 1.5 million LGBTQ+ followers, with #ILoveGaySydney as the city-level presence in that network. Our success metrics are based on the visibility and performance we provide: impressions, reach, click-throughs, and engagement.

Our Campaign Framework

Part One + Part Two.
Complete LGBTQ+ Sydney Coverage.

A comprehensive strategy that reaches LGBTQIA+ Sydney through paid advertising channels AND organic social amplification — simultaneously, across seventeen festival days and the southern winter that follows.

Part One
Hyper-Targeted Digital Advertising

We focus on getting your message and story out to a hyper-targeted LGBTQ+ audience online via traditional online advertising, mobile apps, video advertising, and more.

On the programmatic ad exchange, we layer interest and lifestyle data selects onto LGBTQ+ websites and apps, and geo-target across Darlinghurst and the Inner West, the greater Sydney metro, the Australian national market, and the international feeder markets planning a February trip.

For advanced placements, we utilize Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) technology — serving your brand films inside LGBTQ+ households on all smart devices, including Connected TVs (CTV), across the Sydney market.

Display Ads Mobile Ads Video Ads CTV ACR Technology
Part Two
LGBTQ+ Sydney Community Amplification

We tap into the online conversations and communities on your brand's behalf — amplifying your Sydney story, venues, sponsorships and events within LGBTQIA+ communities on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, X and more.

This includes both social media hyper-targeted advertising and our #ILoveGay social media network — now reaching over 1.5 million followers, with #ILoveGaySydney carrying the city-level conversation. Australian queer media culture is community-owned at its core, and audiences reward brands that fund it rather than just buying February impressions.

From Fair Day and the Mardi Gras Film Festival to the parade up Oxford Street and Queer Screen's spring festival, we help your brand show up where the community already gathers — and stay through the southern winter.

The Map

Two Poles
of Queer Sydney

"Sydney" means the metro's queer map — the historic golden mile of Oxford Street and Darlinghurst, Newtown and the Inner West as the younger second pole, and the harbour that makes this the world's most photogenic Pride stage.

The Golden Mile
Oxford Street & Darlinghurst

The historic heart — the rainbow crossing at Taylor Square, the classic rooms, and Qtopia's four-building campus in the former Darlinghurst Police Station. The parade returned to Oxford Street, its spiritual home, running through Flinders Street to Moore Park.

The Second Pole
Newtown & the Inner West

King Street's queer-run bars, bookshops and drag rooms — the younger, artier counterweight, and home to the Imperial Hotel in Erskineville, drag home of Priscilla legend.

The Festival Grounds
Victoria Park & Moore Park

Victoria Park hosts Fair Day, the festival's biggest free, all-ages day, with stages, 200+ stalls and Doggywood's famous pooch parade. Moore Park takes the parade's finish — the community-facing end of a seventeen-day festival.

Institutional anchors across Sydney include the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, Qtopia Sydney, ACON — Australia's largest LGBTQ+ health organisation and operator of the Australian Workplace Equality Index — Queer Screen, Equality Australia, BlaQ Aboriginal Corporation, the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation, Twenty10 and The Gender Centre.

The Data Behind LGBTQ+ Sydney

The Numbers That Make
This Market Worth Reaching

A snapshot from the LGBTQ+ Sydney Regional Guide — a market about to be officially measured for the first time.

1978

The March Arrests Couldn’t End

Sydney’s first Mardi Gras march ended in arrests and published names, costing jobs, homes and safety. The 78ers kept coming back, Parliament and police eventually apologised, and the event they started became the Southern Hemisphere’s defining LGBTQ+ celebration.

61.6%

A Country That Voted Yes

Australia’s 2017 marriage postal survey returned 61.6% yes on a 79.5% turnout, with every state and territory in favour. Few markets anywhere can cite a literal national vote of confidence.

2026

The Year the Census Counts

The Australian census will count LGBTQ+ people for the first time, asking sexual orientation and gender questions of everyone 16 and over, with first data due June 2027 — a once-ever campaign moment, and the rarest line in this series: officially measured.

The Sydney Calendar

Seventeen Days
of Summer

Mardi Gras is one of the few LGBTQ+ events anywhere that functions as national tourism infrastructure — and its seventeen-day format gives brands inventory depth no single-weekend Pride can match.

February 12–26
The Mardi Gras Film Festival — Queer Screen's 33rd edition, 139 films from 38 countries and six world premieres across Event Cinemas George Street and Dendy Newtown.
February 13 – March 1
The Mardi Gras Festival — seventeen days, 120+ events across dance parties, theatre, First Nations programming and community forums, themed ECSTATICA.
Sunday, February 15
Fair Day at Victoria Park — the festival's biggest free, all-ages day, with stages, 200+ stalls and Doggywood's pooch parade.
Saturday, February 28
The Parade — returned to Oxford Street, running through Flinders Street to Moore Park, with the 78ers at its head.
June – August
The southern winter — a content season rather than a parade season, and where year-round credibility is built cheaply.
August 2026
Census night — the first Australian census to count LGBTQ+ people, with data due June 2027.
September
Queer Screen Film Fest and the ACON Honour Awards — the spring chapter of the calendar.

Own the counter-season — for Northern Hemisphere brands, Sydney solves the January–February content desert; for Australian brands, the quiet southern winter is where year-round credibility is built. Pink Media builds Sydney campaigns that run 24/7, 365.
